Mercé Rodoreda is the finest contemporary Catalan novelist. Her best known book, La Plaça del Diamant, has been translated into seven languages, and was published in Britain under the title, The Pigeon Girl. David Rosenthal, our translator, lives in Barcelona. His own first book of poems, Eyes On The Street (Barlenmir House, New York), includes a group of Catalan poets in translation.
