Seamus Heaney of Ireland is outstanding among that country’s contemporary poets. He has published several collections including: Death Of A Naturalist, Door Into Dark, and Wintering Out.

MARY MELFI – Four Poems

Mary Melfi of Canada is a poet and these are her first published works.

YEHUDA AMICHAI – Four Poems from the War

Yehuda Amichai of Israel is the author of several collections of poetry, short stories, and a novel, Not Of This Time, Not Of This Place. Volumes of his poetry have been published in English including: in the Penguin Modern European Poets series, Poems, and Songs of Jerusalem & Myself.

JACQUES FERRON – Quince Jam

Jacques Ferron of Canada is one of the most important writers from Quebec. He has published collections of stories, novels, and plays. Recognized as a major voice of Quebec nationalism, he founded the Rhinoceros party in 1963 and has written numerous political and historical essays. Tales From An Uncertain Country, Dr. Cotnoir, and Papa Boss (Exile, No. 3) are among his translated works.

WILLIAM RONALD – A Doll’s House with Damp Walls

William Ronald of Canada is outstanding among painters in the country. He was the founder of that group known as Painters Eleven. His work is in numerous private collections, national and international, and all the major North American Museums: the Albright-Knox, The Museum of Modern Art, N.Y., the National Gallery of Canada, the Whitney Museum, the Carnegie Institute, the Guggenheim Museum, N.Y., the Art Institute of Chicago, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Montreal Museum of Fine Art, and the Nelson A. Rockefeller collection. A retrospective of his work, titled: William Ronald – A Quarter Century Of His Work has traveled to various museums.

MARY SODERSTROM – I’m Sorry Mrs. Straus

Mary Soderstrom of the United States is a writer and I’m Sorry Mrs. Straus is her first published story.

JOHN MONTAGUE – A Graveyard In Queens; Slow Dance

John Montague of Ireland has published several collections of poetry, and two, A Chosen Light and Tides, appeared in the U.S. under the imprint of the Swallow Press. The Rough Field, a cycle of poems dealing with the Ulster upheaval, has been published in Ireland and England.

YANNIS RITSOS – Twenty Poems

Yannis Ritsos of Greece is the most prolific of modern Greek poets. Though not well known in English, he has written over twenty-five books of poetry. He has been translated widely on the Continent and Louis Aragon has called him the greatest living European poet. Our translators are Nikos and Gwendolyn Tsingos of Canada. Mr. Tsingos, born in Greece, is a musician and singer. His wife is the poet Gwendolyn MacEwen.
