Two wonderful opportunities for Emerging and Established Canadian fiction writers.

Exile’s  Carter V. Cooper $15,000 Short Fiction Competition  (2015-16) is accepting submissions for the sixth year of this competition (closes Tuesday, March 29). $10,000 awarded for Best Story by an Emerging Writer, $5,000 for Best Story by a Writer at any career point.

• Stories must not have been previously published, not scheduled for publication in book or anthology form prior to November 2016, and must not have been submitted elsewhere for publication consideration: Story length up to 10,000 words. Literary and Speculative* fiction / and styles considered.

• The 2015-16 short listed writers will be published by Exile Editions in the CVC Anthology Series, Book Six (released autumn 2016), and all will be published over four issues in Exile: The Literary Quarterly (ELQ); our standard payment fees to authors will be applied.

* Speculative Fiction includes all forms of literature of the Fantastic (eg. Fantasy, Magic Realism, Science Fiction, Science Fantasy, Horror, Alternative History, etc.).

Exile’s  Gwendolyn MacEwen $3,000 Poetry Competition  (2015-16) has opened for a is accepting submissions for the fourth year of this competition (closes Monday, May 16, 2016). $1,500 for Best Suite by a Writer at Any Career Point, $1,000 for Best Suite by an Emerging Writer (new this year), $500 for Best Poem.

• A unique competition and publishing opportunity for all Emerging and Established Canadian fiction writers. Download the MacEwen4 Entry Form 2015-16.

• Poetry must not have been previously published, not scheduled for publication in book or anthology form prior to November 2016, and must not have been submitted elsewhere for publication consideration: Up to 8 poems can be submitted as a single submission, but the total page length of the submission is not to exceed 24 pages. All styles considered.

• The 2015-16 short listed writers will be published, over four issues, by Excelsior Publishing in the Exile: The Literary Quarterly (ELQ); our standard payment fees to authors will be applied. Poetry may also be considered for full-book publication with Exile Editions (in 2015, one winner and one shortlisted were published: Jeff Bien with In a Time of No Song, and Veronica Gaylie with Sword Dance; both books available via these Amazon links).
